Sander JANSEN
Business Unit Manager in Dieren (The Netherlands)
Some elements of your career & how much time do you work for Actemium?
After my study in Electrical engineering I started at Methec in 1999. During this time I was active in sales and consultancy for logistic- and production ICT solutions (Information & Communication Technology Solutions in the logistic and production environment) in the industry and for power cabinets in the airfield market. Methec became part of Vinci in 2006, where my role changed to a management position, responsible for the project organization. Since 2008 I am active as Business Unit Manager. Since January 2009 we joined the Actemium network.
What is your concrete job?
As a business unit manager I am responsible for the business unit Supply Chain Execution in Dieren with 45 FTE (Full Time Employees) in total. The nice part is that as an Actemium Business Unit you are profit and loss responsible and can define your own product & market combinations. In fact you have your “own company” within a global network. Of course I have to report monthly as Vinci is a public company; besides I experience a lot of freedom in doing our business. I also enjoy the diversity in my job as a Business Unit Manager, as I am active in several fields, like HRM, financial management, and strategy and sales.
What do you appreciate in the Actemium network?
With the Actemium network I experience that we have a lot synergies between the business units, although there are of course BU’s that we have more synergy with than others.
I appreciate the open culture and the fact that you really can do business together by offering common solutions or to introduce each other at our relations. This is also supported by several clubs and (inter)national meeting that are organized. Actemium colleagues are always willing to help and to share information and knowledge.
You are responsible for all or part of the process of carrying out a project, from making the offer to the client to the commissioning and assistance.
You interact with partners, clients and subcontractors.
You are involved in all important steps of the project (architecture and document validation and strategic purchasing) and manage the production teams.

What is your day to day job?
My job is quite varied. As a true “orchestra conductor”, I am responsible for the technical, financial and commercial supervision of complex projects. I coordinate the teams of site and workshop technicians all coming from different trades and I manage the client relations independently.
What do you like in particular about Actemium?
The independence we all are given, the management’s availability and the sense of service to the client that is found in all the co-workers.
Your training or career, has given you the tools necessary to develop software such as: "L4G, Database, XML, automation language, industrial IT products
As part of the team you will carry out all or part of an application and will then participate in implementing your application and ensure the users’ training.

Olivier SWINNEN
Junior Projects Engineer in Liège (Belgium)
What were your first steps in this career and how long have you been working for Actemium?
I received my civil engineering degree from the University of Liege in 2008 with a specialization in electromechanical engineering (Option electromechanical industrial automation). I am working for Actemium since August 2008.
What is your day to day job?
My job is to program PLCs in order to control the production unit. But I also configure the field networks and the different annexed apparatus. I also carry out the command interfacing. As a result there is a lot of diversity in my work. I can do programming, management and graphics, all on the same day!
What do you like in particular about Actemium?
The most interesting aspects of this job are the team work and the challenge. Actemium allows me to take more training courses. And the team is young which made it easier for me to integrate. The Liège site has a really good atmosphere which makes the job pleasant. And I also have the prospect of going abroad next year which is a strong positive point for me.
As trained electro technician, you also have automation and/or communication system skills; cabling plans and schematics don't cause you any problems.
You install, connect and maintain various electrical and automation materials (motor, voltage convertor, plc) included in the solution offered to the client.
Ingenious and good with your hands, your sense of responsibility is indispensible for the successful running of the projects up to the commissioning.
Through your experience you have the opportunity to become team leader or site manager.

Two years ago I joined Actemium while working under a temporary contract. Four months later I was offered a permanent contract which I accepted.
What is your day to day job?
Depending on the business unit’s activity I operate on different sites such as petrochemical platforms or hydraulic dams. I ensure the wiring on the technical premises or installing and connecting PLCs. The customer contact is very pleasant. Knowing how to listen helps to ensure an efficient installation and can sometimes lead to modifications which will make it easier for the client to operate.
What do you like in particular about Actemium?
It’s a business unit organized in a people friendly manner with a good atmosphere and mindset. I speak with the project managers on a regular basis and they really listen to our problems and suggestions. In addition, I learn a lot in contact with colleagues in the Business unit.
