Health authorities requested ATIS (a Business Unit of VINCI Energies) and other Actemium Business Units to supply assembly and packaging machines to produce rapid tests of COVID-19 detection.
ATIS reused their existing technologies, normally used to produce test kits for HIV, and adapted their machinery to produce new rapid tests, a type of medical test with strong growth potential.
The test kits are packed in a cassette made up of two plastic shells, within which is a strip carrying the reagent. The challenge lies in industrializing the production of these strips and adapting them to the test kits originally made for other diseases. Therefore, ATIS developed a new agile system to automatically cut the strips and assemble them with high production rates in order to produce large quantities of testing kits due to the urgency of the situation.
