Actemium Signs Full Maintenance Contract with TOPAS Advanced Polymers GmbH

Actemium has signed a comprehensive three-year full maintenance contract with TOPAS Advanced Polymers GmbH for the company’s new production plant at the Leuna Chemical Park.

TOPAS Advanced Polymers, a subsidiary of the Japanese plastics manufacturer Polyplastics, has been constructing a state-of-the-art facility there since 2022 for the production of cyclo-olefin copolymers (COC). Cyclo‑olefin copolymers (COC) are a family of transparent engineering thermoplastics produced by copolymerizing linear olefins (usually ethylene) with cyclic olefins (such as norbornene). They are valued for their optical clarity, chemical stability, and extremely low moisture absorption.

Actemium was originally awarded the contract for the complete electrical, measurement, control and instrumentation systems (EMSR) of the new COC production facility. Building on the successful completion of this project, Actemium will now also take over the plant’s operational support under a full maintenance contract.

Under this agreement, Actemium will be responsible for the operational reliability and efficiency of the new production plant—making a key contribution to safe and sustainable production at the Leuna site.

“From the very beginning of the project, Actemium has been a reliable and trusted partner. We are pleased to continue expanding this partnership in the future. The full maintenance contract is the logical next step for ensuring sustainable plant operations,” said Marcel Fahnenstich, Plant Manager at TOPAS Advanced Polymers.

Actemium in Leuna is a strong regional partner and employer, as well as an expert in maintenance and servicing of industrial facilities with many years of experience in EMSR systems. With this expertise, Actemium is also breaking new ground in the field of full maintenance services.

The scope of the full maintenance contract includes:

  • Holistic maintenance strategy: Planning and implementation of all maintenance and repair activities to ensure maximum plant availability
  • Preventive maintenance: Regular inspections and preventive measures to avoid downtime
  • Spare parts management: Organization and stocking of critical components
  • Safety and compliance checks: Ensuring adherence to legal requirements and safety standards
  • Optimization and efficiency improvements: Continuous analysis to enhance processes and energy use
  • Documentation and reporting: Transparent reporting on all activities and performance indicators

The new plant will more than double TOPAS Advanced Polymers’ production capacity and create additional jobs in the region. The investment volume exceeds €200 million. The products are used in medical technology, the packaging industry, and optical technologies.
