Actemium & Royal Swinkels: Where Sustainability Meets Productivity

Royal Swinkels has been one of Actemium's most long-lasting and successful partnerships in the Netherlands. The family business, known for its breweries and malt houses, strives to continuously produce more efficiently and sustainably.
The collaboration started more than ten years ago, when Swinkels asked us to help them automate their brewhouses and production lines. In recent years, the collaboration has been further expanded with a strong focus on sustainability.
As an industrial specialist, we help our customers with the energy transition by using innovative technologies. In this way, we support and relieve Swinkels in automating various energy and process optimization projects
says Martijn Hallink, Business Unit General Manager, responsible for the customer relationship with Royal Swinkels.
Tailored sustainable solutions driving productivity
One of the most impactful projects at Swinkels is the implementation of the Warm water buffer. This innovation enables Swinkels to store excess energy and heat released during the production process and use it later on.
Our partnership with Swinkels is a great example of how we support customers in their pursuit of sustainability and process optimization. Swinkels wants to continuously innovate and that fits in perfectly with what we offer as Actemium
explains Hallink.
The result is remarkable: thanks to the water buffer, Swinkels saves over 16% of the total annual gas consumption at its Lieshout production site.
The power of a strong partnership
The idea for the hot water buffer came from Swinkels’ ongoing search for ways to make their production processes more sustainable. They approached Actemium to help them think about how the energy system could best be automated according to the latest standards.
As a System Integrator, we were involved in the entire process, from the technical design to the implementation of both the software and hardware solutions. We worked together with various partners to ensure that the system was seamlessly integrated into their existing process.
Open communication and mutual trust have been strong pillars in the projects’ success. A relatively small team works on projects at Swinkels, but it is precisely these short lines and close cooperation that ensure efficiency.
As a partner, the success of Royal Swinkels is also our success
Future projects including predictive maintenance and further automation of their brewery and energy processes are under study.
The collaboration between Royal Swinkels and Actemium is a compelling example of how innovative technologies can help build sustainable successes in the future.
